Save Minster Marshes

National Grid propose to build a huge electricity converter station 26 metres high and covering 60,000 square metres (6 hectares) on Minster Marshes adjacent to a protected SSSI wildlife site. The cable will come onshore through Pegwell Bay nature reserve.

Minster Marshes is a safe haven off shore and close to the coast for wading birds and a number of mammals. They depend on the river and environment that the marshes provide which are rare and unique.

Thanet is the most heavily populated area in East Kent, this is the final frontier for many species.

National Grid Substation

  • Converter station and substation in wrong location on SSSI and Higher Level Environmental sites - brownfield sites must be considered. Converter station will be 100ft tall and covert 7 hectares of prime arable land.
